At The Globals, accessible from https://theglobals.co, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by The Globals and how we use it.

This Privacy Policy applies to The Globals website and mobile app. It covers information that schools, teachers, students, and parents share or that we collect when those services are used. It does not cover information collected offline.

By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.
Information we collect
The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.
If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
When you register for an Account, we may ask for your contact information, including items such as name, company name, address, email address, and telephone number.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain our website
- Improve, personalise, and expand our website
- Understand and analyse how you use our website
- Develop new products, services, features, and functionality
- Communicate with you, either directly or through one of our partners, including for customer service, to provide you with updates and other information relating to the website, and for marketing and promotional purposes
- Send you emails
- Find and prevent fraud
- Track educational progress and learning analytics
- Provide personalised learning experiences
- Generate reports for teachers and administrators
- Show school leaderboards to signed-in users in the same school
Log Files
The Globals follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services' analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analysing trends, administering the site, tracking users' movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.
Cookies and Web Beacons
Like any other website, The Globals uses 'cookies'. These cookies are used to store information including visitors' preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimise the users' experience by customising our web page content based on visitors' browser type and/or other information.

Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to provide our educational platform. All sub-processors operate under data processing agreements (Art. 28 GDPR). Transfers outside the EEA/adequacy countries are protected by Standard Contractual Clauses:

Assignment videos, project uploads, and microphone recordings are never shared with sub-processors for their own purposes.
Educational Data Collection
As an educational platform, we collect specific types of data to enhance learning experiences:
- Learning Progress: Quiz scores, assignment completions, and educational milestones
- Content Interaction: Time spent on educational materials, video viewing patterns
- User-Generated Content: Written responses, uploaded files, and creative projects
- Assignment submissions (video, project uploads, microphone input): Video recordings, project/file uploads, and audio recorded via microphone access that the student voluntarily submits as part of an assignment. Kept until the end of membership access and deleted afterwards. Accessible only by the submitting student and their own teacher for review and grading; not processed externally, not shared with third parties, and not accessible by anyone else.
- Classroom Data: Student-teacher relationships, class assignments, and group activities
- Assessment Results: Test scores, evaluation feedback, and performance analytics
- School rankings: Donation, Jupas, digital impact, quiz, and games standings used on leaderboards
Student assignment content: video, project uploads, and microphone input
Some assignments ask the student for input in the form of video recordings, project or file uploads, and audio recorded via microphone access. The student provides this content voluntarily as part of completing the assignment. Microphone and camera access is used only when the student chooses to record or submit a spoken or video answer; we do not listen in the background or record outside of an assignment submission the student actively makes.
- Retention: assignment videos, project uploads, and microphone recordings are kept until the end of membership access and deleted afterwards.
- Access: each submission is accessible only by the submitting student and their own teacher, strictly for review and grading purposes.
- No external processing or sharing: assignment content is not processed externally, not shared with third parties, and not accessible by anyone else — it is never used for advertising, analytics, or model training.
Data collection methods
Personal data is collected through appropriate, proportionate methods for the stated purposes:

School leaderboards
Signed-in users can open leaderboards for donations, Jupas, digital impact, quizzes, and games. These boards are not published on the public website.
- Students, parents, teachers, and school admins see only their own school. Campus groups (e.g., Doğa Okulları) are shown together as a single group.
- A campus board stays limited to that campus within the same school.
- A parent's board follows the linked child's school.
- System administrators can see a worldwide board to operate the service.
- Leaderboard names are shortened to first name + first letter of surname (e.g., Emma T.). Full names stay on class lists, profiles, and reports the school may access.
Explicit consent for visual/audio content (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a), KVKK m. 5/1, m. 6/1): If a student (or parent) consents to video/voice/project uploads, their name, avatar, and Jupas score may appear in school-level leaderboards. This is entirely optional and can be withdrawn anytime via "Cookie preferences" in the footer. Without consent, students are anonymised or excluded from leaderboards.
Data security measures
We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk:

CCPA Privacy Rights
Under the CCPA, among other rights, California consumers have the right to:
- Request that a business that collects a consumer's personal data disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal data that a business has collected about consumers.
- Request that a business delete any personal data about the consumer that a business has collected.
- Request that a business not sell the consumer's personal data (note: The Globals does not sell personal data).
If you make a request, we have one month to respond to you. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us.
GDPR Data Protection Rights
We would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:
- The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data.
- The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
- The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to data portability – You have the right to request that we transfer the data that we have collected to another organisation, or directly to you, under certain conditions.

Children's Information
Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity. The Globals is a school platform for students aged 11–18: student accounts are created and supervised by schools and teachers, with parental involvement where local law requires it. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13 outside such school-supervised accounts, and we do not serve ads or run analytics on signed-in learning pages without the applicable consent. If you think a child provided information outside these flows, contact us immediately and we will promptly remove it from our records.
